A global airline brand is building out the in-house copywriting bench on its Brand Marketing team, and they're looking for a Copywriter who can move fast across a lot of surfaces without losing the voice.
This is a long-term, full-time, hybrid contract in Chicago, sitting within a small, senior in-house team that works hand-in-hand with the brand's agency partners. The projects vary: one day you're writing a caption that has to feel like it belongs in the feed; the next you're writing the through-line for an internal sizzle reel or getting the technical details right on a route announcement. If you like range, and you like being the person who actually knows where the comma goes, this is a good seat.
You Will:
Write across formats and audiences — social captions, out-of-home, influencer scripts, sizzle reel narration, event and campaign collateral
Build the through-line for internal sizzle reels from existing footage and materials, thinking visually and verbally at the same time
Flex between culturally fluent social copy and precise technical announcements — new routes, aircraft, schedule news
Edit and proofread copy from teammates, agency partners, and influencer collaborators
QC agency deliverables, including scripts and caption/SRT files, before they go live
Hold the brand voice steady across channels, stakeholders, and formats
Partner with departments across the business to get announcements accurate as well as compelling
Collaborate with the in-house content team and the brand's agencies of record
You Have:
6+ years of copywriting for well-known consumer brands — agency or in-house
A portfolio that shows range across channels, not depth in one (required to be considered)
Real command of grammar, punctuation, and style-guide discipline — you're comfortable being the last set of eyes, and you don't need one behind you
The ability to write both ends of the spectrum: culture-aware social and buttoned-up technical
Appetite for a genuinely complex industry, and the patience to become a student of it
Exceptional organization and the ability to juggle multiple projects at once
Strong collaborative energy — you work well solo and in a room
Bachelor's degree in communications, English, journalism, or a related field
Nice to have: AP Style familiarity; strategy-informed writing (the content strategy seats are filled, but thinking strategically about what you write is welcome)
Logistics:
Duration: Long-term contract; no end date defined
Hours/Week: 40
Onsite/offsite: Hybrid — Chicago-based required; two days onsite per week (Tues/Wed), downtown
Team Structure: Reports into Brand Marketing; small in-house team (one full-time lead plus a part-time social specialist) working alongside external agency partners. Interview process: hiring manager, then Creative Director
Rate: $50/hr
