WHY BOX NEEDS YOU
Box is building an editorial operation that earns its audience — content people seek out, share, and cite.
We're looking for a writer and editor to lead that work. You'll write and edit at a standard that raises everyone around you, build the original research that gives Box something to say that nobody else can, and shape what we publish based on what actually lands.
This is a player-coach role. Most of your time is spent creating, and you direct a small team of writers and editors.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Writing and editing
Write fast-turn analysis when the conversation demands it — inside 48 hours of a model release or a significant market moment, without needing a briefing to understand what shipped.
Write two to three deeper pieces a month, grounded in our research, our data, or your own reporting.
Interview technical and executive subjects and come away with the real story.
Direct a brand editor and a contract writer-editor: allocation, deadlines, coaching, quality.
Raise the technical bar on other people's drafts.
The research program
A standing capability that produces credible, citable numbers on a continuous basis, built on data and questions nobody else has access to.
Design and run original research: define the agenda, build the methodology, manage vendors and timelines, interpret the results, and stand behind them publicly. Documented methods, defensible findings.
Own State of AI as our annual flagship, plus targeted pulse studies on the questions the market is genuinely wrestling with.
Turn every study into a full slate rather than a single PDF: the anchor report, individual findings as articles, data points built for social, executive talking points, sales material, and stories worth pitching.
Maintain a repository of findings and quotable data the whole team draws from.
Work with our video and design teams on data graphics, explainers and social-native data formats. You have a view on how data should be shown, and you hold that bar.
What we publish next
Bring evidence to editorial decisions: what's resonating, what isn't, and what that means for the next thing we commission.
Track what the audiences we serve are asking and arguing about — through social listening, search and answer-engine visibility, sales conversations, and direct contact with the people we write for — and turn it into story ideas with a point of view.
Plan the content that supports our campaigns: what each audience needs at each stage, what we already have, and what gets built first.
WHO YOU ARE
You're demonstrably part of the AI conversation. Published writing, a public track record, or professional experience inside it. We'll ask your view on recent model releases and where enterprise AI is heading, and we'll care about the answer.
You've worked somewhere technical credibility was non-negotiable — where what you published had to hold up with engineers and researchers, not only with buyers.
You've built or substantially run a research program. Survey design, methodology, data interpretation, and turning research into content. Comfortable enough in data to interrogate a dataset yourself, and to know the difference between an interesting finding and a misleading one — including a view on how it should be visualized.
You're a strong writer and a natural interviewer. You can have a real technical conversation with an engineer or a CTO and find the story in it.
You have judgment about audiences. This job is finding the overlap between what a company has to say and what a specific audience actually wants to hear — repeatedly, on evidence.
5+ years in editorial, journalism, research, or content, with a portfolio on technology topics.
Experience directing a small team: setting priorities, allocating work, holding a standard.
