Working under the direction of the Principal Tool Designer, you’ll turn engineering and manufacturing requirements into accurate drawings and designs that can be used to build production tooling.

A major part of the job is  working directly with the manufacturing floor . You’ll collaborate with machine operators and setup personnel to troubleshoot tooling and production issues, observe new tooling during setup and tryout, and determine whether designs need to be modified before being released for production.

What You’ll Do

Design tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in manufacturing.
Prepare accurate engineering and manufacturing drawings using accepted drafting practices.
Work with production employees to  identify and solve tooling or manufacturing problems .
Observe the testing and setup of newly designed tooling and recommend redesigns when necessary.
Provide support for process-print design when needed.
Help improve  quality, productivity, and manufacturing processes .
Follow company safety requirements and applicable regulations.

What They’re Looking For

The ideal candidate has a background in  mechanical drafting, machine design, and manufacturing equipment . The position calls for either:

degree in Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field,  or
Approximately three to five years of relevant experience/training, or an equivalent combination.

You should also be comfortable with  CAD and other computer software , mechanical drawings, geometry/trigonometry, and communicating technical information through drawings, reports, and work instructions.

The role is a good fit for someone who enjoys  mechanical design + CAD + problem-solving + working closely with manufacturing . It sits between engineering and the production floor, with a strong emphasis on making tooling practical, accurate, and production-ready.

Bottom line:  You're designing the specialized equipment that allows a manufacturing operation to make its products efficiently and correctly, then working with the production team to troubleshoot and improve those designs.
