Visual Designer, Product

We'll tailor a polished résumé and a full CV to Visual Designer, Product at Luma AI, then hand you both as PDFs. Free, about a minute, no signup to try it.
You'll own the visual quality of Luma's product: the typography, color, iconography, spacing, and components that make it feel exceptional, and the design system that lets the whole team hold that bar as the product grows. This is a craft-first role with a strong point of view.
It isn't a redesign-everything role. You're elevating what exists and building the scalable foundation underneath it, including a living design system engineers and designers actually reference when they build. It fits someone who thinks in systems and can defend why a decision is right, not just how it looks. If you prefer one-off screens over a coherent system, this won't suit.
What You'll Own
- Audit the full product with fresh eyes and drive meaningful improvements across typography, color, iconography, spacing, and component design.
- Build and own the design system in Figma — tokens, components, and usage guidelines the whole team builds from.
- Bring the design system to life as a live, interactive reference using AI coding tools like Cursor or Claude Code.
- Set and hold the visual bar, establishing what good looks like and advocating for it across the product.
- Shape how new features look before they're built, bringing a visual perspective to early concepting.
First 90 Days
One way the first 90 could unfold.
- Days 1–30 — Immerse & Diagnose: Audit the product's visual quality and map where it falls short and what the design system needs.
- Days 30–60 — Ship & Validate: Elevate a high-visibility surface and stand up the first version of the systematized visual language in Figma.
- Days 60–90 — Scale & Systemize: Build the live, interactive design system the team uses when shipping new features.
What You Bring
- 7+ years in visual and UI design, with a portfolio showing exceptional craft across typography, color, layout, and interaction.
- Systems thinking: you turn a strong visual language into a scalable, consistent foundation.
- Experience building or significantly contributing to a design system a team actually uses.
- You build with AI coding tools to produce real outputs, not just mockups, and iterate until they meet your bar.
- A clear point of view you can articulate, and a portfolio of work that shipped and improved product quality.
- A portfolio showing design-systems experience is required.
Nice to Have
- Experience building a token system from scratch and connecting it to a live codebase.
- Experience building a live component library or design system with AI coding tools.
- Experience designing for desktop applications (our product is desktop-first).
