About the role:
You're a senior individual contributor who drives design excellence and strategic impact across multiple teams. You lead through craft mastery, strategic thinking, and influence, not through people management. You set direction, solve complex problems that span products, and multiply impact by raising the capabilities of designers around you
What you’ll do
Lead design strategy for major product areas or cross-product initiatives
Drive complex, ambiguous projects from discovery through launch across multiple teams
Set design standards, patterns, and best practices that others follow
Identify and solve systemic design problems across products
Partner with senior product and engineering leadership on strategy
Mentor and sponsor senior and mid-level designers (informally, no direct reports)
Make critical design decisions that affect multiple teams
Contribute significantly to design system strategy and evolution
Represent design in organisational planning and cross-functional forums
Identify strategic opportunities that weren't on the roadmap
What you bring
Portfolio showing leadership and influence across multiple teams or products
Proven track record of solving complex, ambiguous problems
Deep expertise in visual design, interaction design, and systems thinking
Strong research skills and ability to validate strategic decisions with evidence
History of setting direction that others follow
Experience mentoring and developing other designers
Excellent stakeholder management and communication at senior leadership level
Track record of identifying opportunities and driving them to completion
Requirements
Mastery of design tools and advanced prototyping
Ideally, 10+ years of product design experience with demonstrated strategic impact
Strategic product thinking and strong business acumen
Ability to influence without authority
Comfortable operating with extreme ambiguity and creating clarity for others
Strong facilitation skills for workshops and alignment sessions
Can work autonomously for extended periods without guidance
Makes high-stakes decisions
